Bernadette Lack
Founder of all things Core & Floor Restore
Hey! I’m B. And I’m here to support you through pregnancy, labour, and postpartum.
I’m a midwife, personal trainer, wife, mother and published academic. I’ve
worked as a midwife in Australia and overseas since 2007, across homebirth,
large city hospitals and in remote First Nations communities.
I hold a Bachelor of Midwifery with honours and a Master of Public Health. I
was also awarded the Sidney Sax medal for best overall performance in my
masters.
While continuing to grow Core & Floor, helping people like you through the
mental and physical challenges of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, I’d also
like to complete a PhD on the epic outcomes I keep seeing across my
courses.
I understand your pregnancy and postpartum challenges from both a
professional and personal perspective. I’ve been through incontinence and
have an anterior wall prolapse. I get what you’re going through, I understand
the family juggle and can help you heal and feel confident in your body.
When I’m not connecting with amazing women the world over, or studying to
learn even more in this space, you’ll find me out in the bush camping, hiking
or splashing in the bath with my boys.
The Story Behind Core & Floor
I’ve experienced incontinence since I was 19 years old. In 2016, as part of
my preconception care, I finally went and consulted with a women’s health
physio. I was told to do my kegels, stop running and wait four months before
conceiving. I did my kegels. I stopped running. I kept leaking. And four
months later fell pregnant.
Pregnancy was a hoot. Vomiting and then wetting myself multiple times a
day. Often I would be stuck in traffic soaked in urine and vomit or at women’s
houses with nowhere to change my soaked incontinence pad. Here I was
young, intelligent and wetting myself daily. My mental health suffered. And I
resented my body.
But, as a lover of research I knew there must be something I could do. So, I
got to it. I researched, trialled exercises, slowed it down and took it back to
basics. And I started leaking less.
Then, for the first time in over a decade, I sneezed without wetting myself.
The more time I spent with mothers, I realised that I was not alone. Everyone
around me was having difficulty with both the mental and physical aspects of
pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
So I developed Core and Floor Restore to help the women in my local
community. And it really worked. So having had so much success with my
face-to-face program, my clients encouraged me to make it accessible to
more women so that they could heal and strengthen too. I took it online.
And here we are. I could not be more grateful to be on this journey having a
real impact on the physical and mental health of women like you.
