Francesca
Hello! I’m Francesca. I am a mother, wife and Clinical Psychologist based in Perth, WA. I have a Masters degree from UWA (University of Western Australia) and am registered with the Psychology Board of Australia. I have previously worked in child and adolescent mental health and disability services, but after navigating my own birthing experiences, and entering the wildly wonderful and complex ride of parenthood; it sparked in me a desire to shift my work focus to supporting other mothers (and families) in their own prenatal, birthing and postnatal journeys, including the transition to motherhood and early parenting experiences. I have more recently worked co-facilitating therapeutic groups supporting new mothers to strengthen the mother-infant attachment relationship (‘Mother-Baby Nurture’).
I am a mother myself to 4 children and have had a range of birthing experiences, across different maternity care providers- private & public systems, and including two HBA2C’s (home births after 2 caesareans). I learnt first-hand the impact and difference an empowering birth experience can make (knowing that that can look different for everyone); and the potential ripple effects that can be carried (sometimes unknowingly) from birth, into the postpartum journey. I believe support, quality birth preparation and holistic birth debriefing (regardless of how someone’s birth has unfolded) is invaluable to help process, navigate and make sense of one’s experience.
I have specialist training in perinatal and infant mental health and I also draw on a range of therapeutic modalities and approaches in my work including schema, internal family systems, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I’ve also more recently gained a deeper understanding of more somatic based therapies and the importance and wisdom of the body, particularly around healing trauma. My intention is to provide a warm, safe, compassionate and respectful space, and feel it is an honour and privilege to provide support to women during such a pivotal, transformative life period.
Outside of work I am a lover of yoga and have completed my yoga teacher training including trauma informed yoga training. I also love the beach, sunsets, coffee, travel and navigating the highs and lows of parenting and family life with my little tribe.
